As crazy as this is going to sound, I’ve actually never had cobbler in my life – until now! Especially to find out how easy it is to make this cast iron skillet blueberry cobbler.
Why has this been all my life?!
You can easily justify eating it for breakfast, or brunch as well!
Living in Florida, it’s incredibly easy to get the freshest in-season produce. Plus, the U-pick farms are a great day date! So while my husband and I are both keen on sweets, we try our best to keep it as fresh as possible. If we were going to make cobbler, we were going to do it right.
So we went and picked our own blueberries at Southern Hill Farms in Clermont, Florida.

The fields are open early in the year – from about January to May (though dates vary) – so we generally pick til our heart’s content and end up freezing a ton of blueberries to have for snacking and baking.
I say it’s a great day date because there’s more than just berry picking to enjoy! They also have U-pick peaches, hay rides, U-pick flowers, super-size yard games, a fun playground for the kiddos, a market with specialized blueberry drinks and nik-naks (like sugar scrubs, lip balms, etc.) and a food truck with delicious blueberry inspired treats (like this blueberry donut ice cream sandwich).

They even do specialty events, like moonlight blueberry picking (yes, berry picking at night on the full moon) and weekend blueberry mimosas.
But that’s not why you’re here! Back to that blueberry cobbler I’ve been teasing about…
I won’t lie – this recipe calls to use a cast iron skillet. So if you don’t have one, you may need to play with the cooking time and temperature in a regular pan or casserole dish.
Nonetheless, you won’t be disappointed to share (or not have to share) a slice of this baby as a date night dessert. Simply dollop with a scoop of ice cream while it’s warm and you have yourself one irresistible treat.
