DIY Beachy Glass Gem Bathroom Mirror Decor

I recently gave my bathroom a makeover, from this dark and dull gray to a lively pastel peach and white. I wanted to go into the mermaid beach theme, but not overdo it. And in the midst of it all, I replaced the mirror. I wanted to jazz it up with something, since I kept the bathroom pretty simple. After all, the bathroom is probably no more than 4 x 7 sq. feet (TINY).

I went with these clear glass gems that I had since my wedding as part of the decor. They were just laying around, waiting until I found something to do with them. I had at least 4 pounds of these gems, with more than enough leftover for other crafts! I also had an over-abundance of seashells, so I incorporated shells on the mirror at the end.

Here I have listed all the necessary products I used to create this look, and I went ahead and found a decent collection of shells you can purchase (be aware they could be chipped or some broken when shipped, so it’s probably easier to just run to Michael’s or Hobby Lobby)

Clear Glass Gemstones (5 lb. bag) $15.99

Hot Glue Gun ( w. 30 piece clear glue sticks) $9.99

Mixed variety seashells (up to 2″ in size, 50 ct.) $7.09

Gorilla Glue Super Glue $6.56

With a hot glue gun and about two hours under my belt – the final piece was complete.

One of the pluses of the hot glue gun and the glass gems is easy and clean removal from the mirror. If I wanted to rearrange the gems, I could just by simply popping them off and tearing the dried glue off. It was that easy!

About an hour after I had cleaned up and put everything away, I heard 3 loud pops. Each shell bundle had fallen off. And what I realized was that the shells were very heavy, and being that the hot glue gun can’t handle that kind of weight, I needed to use a little heavier duty glue to get the shells to stick.  So I super glued a gemstone to each of the shells and then super glued that gem to the mirror. This took a bit more dry time. But as for the clear gemstones surrounding, those can handle just using the hot glue gun.
