Valentine’s Day Ideas For Him [What He REALLY Wants!]

Ah, Valentine’s Day. That dreaded, yet beautiful holiday.

I remember some years thinking, “Why does this day even exist?” Now that I’m married, it’s pretty much stayed the same. Yet we play on the hype. Because it’s all about love notes, chocolates, secret admirers and teddy bears. WRONG.

Not for him.

So let’s talk about the male species when it comes to a day about Love. Think about what you would want, thennnnn you might want to consider just the opposite if you’re wondering what he wants.

Honestly, it has nothing to do with hearts, I Love You’s and chocolate (Ok, the chocolate may be pushing it). But ladies, we still tend to go our own way on things – the what-I-would-want-and-he-should-just-appreciate-I-did-anything sort of way.

We forget that how we want to be loved isn’t necessarily how he feels loved.

Granted, the teddy bear holding the heart that says I Love You is cute – “iT’s ThE tHoUgHt ThAt CoUnTs” – but seriously, though, save your money on something that will just end up in the back corner of his closet collecting dust.

I did a survey of over 100 men who gave honest answers as to what they want in terms of this holiday of Love. And from the results, I think you’ll be shockingly surprised by what he actually wants for this seemingly overrated holiday, and how easy it is to win his heart.

Because the truth is, this day may be all.about.LOVE, but he may feel loved in a completely different way than you. Valentine’s Day Ideas For Him [What He REALLY Wants!]

A good ole’ fashion home-cooked meal

No reservations, no two-hour-long wait for that new restaurant. Forget all of that.

Guys want a good, home-cooked meal on Valentine’s Day. Whether it solely be made by you, you’re cooking together, or having his favorite take out; a candlelit dinner at home is high on his holiday menu. Whatever his favorite meal is – that’s what he wants most on Valentine’s Day.

Because, as we know, good food is the way to a man’s heart.

If you must, for whatever reason, take him out – take him to his favorite place; whether it’s that sports bar for beer and wings to watch a game. You really don’t need to plan a fancy, call ahead in two weeks, dinner.

An activity you know he will enjoy

Notice I said he.

Even if you absolutely can’t stand it. Really, though, he will notice the effort taken.

This doesn’t mean movie tickets (since he loves movies) to a romance you want to see – don’t pull that, because you know how you would feel if roles swapped and he took you to see Terminator XXIII.

If he has a favorite hobby, treat him to a date night activity.

Look he may be a closet romantic, but that’s for you. His idea of being romanced may be something entirely different than the carriage ride with a bottle of champagne and Sinatra playing in the background.

One year I surprised my husband with indoor go-kart racing since we had never been and he talked it up for an entire year.

There are so many activities to choose from: laser tag, indoor sky diving, an escape room, bowling, mini-golf, horseback riding, the beach, a sport’s game, concert or comedy show, the gun range, a brewery or bar crawl, theme parks, the zoo, a booze cruise, or fishing.

Take the time ahead to plan an activity he enjoys that you can enjoy together. It might just require you to step out of your comfort zone.

Date night at home

I was surprised at how many survey answers said they would prefer a date night planned at home. This a clear sign as to how simple guys are when it comes to their needs being met.

Including the home-cooked meal, many said they would be happy with a pack of their favorite beer or drink, spending the night together playing video games, watching a movie, listening to music, spending quality time together, playing a board game, having a “build your own ice cream sundae” party, having a bonfire and stargazing in the backyard.

So this year, plan a night by picking up a 6-pack of his favorite beer (and wine for you), ingredients to his favorite meal, and a simple activity at home.

Keep the gifts minimal

Valentine’s Day for guys actually doesn’t involve ‘gifts’.

Many never mentioned any physical item they wanted at all. Plus, the expectation just isn’t there – many would rather have your time than your money spent on them.

But if the gesture is given, then a thoughtful card, a decadent cake or dessert (again, food), or something sentimental or handmade by you is more than acceptable. You might consider something like a photo keychain or scratch-off Love Coupons.

Forget the balloons and giant teddy bear; those things are far from their expectations for Valentine’s Day.

And, of course, you can’t forget getting freaky in the sheets

If there is anything you should know about a man, undoubtedly, is that sexy-time is always, always number one on that list.

Guys want sex.

Yes, I said it, because very few guys will actually and honestly admit to it aloud (moreover, they’re just trying to have respect).

And those who did – well, you got to hand it to them – they were speaking for literally every man who took that survey.

You could plan absolutely nothing – as long as you meet that desire, you have just won him over with hardly trying. Or you can go the extra mile and surprise him with something new – from lingerie, special toys (if he’s into that kind of thing) or subtle gifts in line with the idea. Like Unforgettable Sex tokens or GetUsom (it’s a gag, but he’ll get the hint).

Whether you’re in a relationship, engaged, or married – just know this option is almost always 100% on the table, not just Valentine’s Day, of course. But let’s just say the holiday basically gives the male species an excuse to try and justify it.

So, make it special – get something new and sexy to wear – and give your man a private show.

But, you are encouraged to respecting your own boundaries; this is something you shouldn’t feel complied to doing by any means.
