I officially became one of THOSE dog moms. It started while I was looking for dog treats – I couldn’t believe the amount of literal crap that goes into some of the brands out there – like copper nitrate and citric acid. Really?! So I decided to take matters into my own hands, literally, with only a handful of real ingredients. Your fur-companion will be drooling over these oven-baked peanut butter dog biscuits.

It’s cheaper – in the long run – and healthier because I know exactly what’s going in it, and what doesn’t need to! Granted, I know this is a lot of work (I probably get a lot of migraine-induced eye rolls for even finding the time), but I’ve said it and I’ll say it again – my dogs are family. To me, it’s so worth that extra work even if it means they don’t get treats that often. And when they do, it’s a spoonful of yogurt, some blueberries (or other varieties of fruit), veggies or even dark leafy greens that are safe (in moderation, of course)…because I’m literally eating it.
DISCLAIMER: this treat recipe is NOT grain-free, but it is free of dairy and other ingredients you can’t pronounce. Yes, even in the peanut butter since I used all-natural. Just be sure that your PB doesn’t contain Xylitol! You could also substitute regular flour for GF flour (like sorghum flour), oats, almond flour, or even just slow bake fruits and veggies until they’re completely dehydrated as a natural jerky or chew.

Drool-worthy oven-baked peanut butter dog biscuits
Drool-worthy Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Natural peanut butter (AVOID XYLITOL)
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 2 1/2 cups Unbleached flour (or oats/almond flour)
- 1 cup carrots (shredded)
- 1 whole red delicious apple (shredded)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. In a blender or processor, puree your baby carrots and apple (cut into slices first, without core and seeds).
- Add in coconut oil and peanut butter until blended smooth (if you need to add a little water for consistency, this is OK to do).
- In a large bowl, add the flour and baking powder and mix before pouring in wet ingredients. Incorporate until the batter becomes dough-like. Add a little more water if needed (try not to use more than 1/2 cup of water for entire recipe). The consistency should be that of dough.
- Begin by taking a small amount, or however much can be pressed into the silicone molds without overfilling them (these babies will rise a little in the oven). If you aren't using molds, I advise to roll the dough into quarter sized balls and pressing them gently with your fingers (not flattening them completely).
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on desired crunchiness. These treats will be subtly soft on the inside, but if you want them crunchier, leaving them in the oven longer is your best bet (just watch that you don't burn them).
- Allow to cool completely before storing in an air-tight container for up to 7 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
